Microsoft Project 2013 Preview Now Available
July 23, 2012--Microsoft has made a preview of Project 2013, also being referred to as "Project Online," available for trial. The trial is for testing purposes and any information entered during the course of the trial will be lost at its conclusion.
"In general, Project 2013 continues the trends we saw in Microsoft Project Server 2007 and 2010 to a tighter integration with SharePoint, increased project portfolio management (PPM) capability, improved reporting, and moving more functionality to the cloud or the Server rather than forcing users to always use the client software," said David Kaiser, Managing Partner of Schedule Associates International.
More specifically, Project 2013 offers the following new features:
-- tighter integration with Office 365 and SharePoint including the ability to create a dedicated project site,
-- the ability to extend the application via apps, some of which will be available through Microsoft's Office Store,
-- improved synchronization of task lists with Office 365 and SharePoint,
-- support for mobile work through touch capability to provide for selection of cells and the enlargement of icons, smart phone support, and access from multiple devices,
-- information as to whether other team members are online,
-- the ability to show predecessor, successor, driving predecessor, and driving successor paths to a given task,
-- enhanced reporting and dashboard capability.
No information has been provided as to when the final version of Project 2013 is expected.
